Tell us about your journey? Four years ago we were practicing law full time when we had an idea to make neckwear. That lead to opportunities that we hadn't imagined. Within two years we quit our full-time jobs to focus on Res Ipsa. The Alchemist is a book that has been very impactful to our journey. It is an allegory that taught us that when you are traveling the path that is your calling, the universe propels you to success beyond your imagination. Traveling and staying open to new opportunities resulted in us pivoting our business into footwear and making products from vintage kilims, which in turn presented new and amazing opportunities. We try to be intentional about being open to taking risks, and not letting fear of failure cause us to miss out on something. In other words, we are committed to trying new things--even if they end up different than we hoped--because saying "yes" creates opportunities.
What's your favorite part of your day? The feeling I have after working out (Odini). A cup of hot tea before bed (Josh).
When do you feel most successful? When I cross things off the to-do list (Josh). I feel successful all the time (Odini).
What do you do to recharge when you’re feeling drained? Go to Nantucket.
What do you know today that you wish you would have known when you first got started as an entrepreneur? Your most valuable resource is time. You can always make more money but you can't make more time. Use your time wisely, and say no to things that don't move you forward.
How do you optimize your day? We create a to-do list and assign action items. If we have a moment to wonder "what should I be doing?" then we check the list.
Who is the person/people who allowed you to imagine more? Fellow entrepreneurs, because we are inspired by their courage to take risks and their vision to see something that did not exist.
What does imagining more mean to you and your story? It's easy to get focused on the logistical details without pulling back periodically to set big goals. Your goals should scare you, or you need bigger goals.
If you could do more of one thing every day what would it be? Meditate (Josh). Read for leisure (Odini).
