Tell us about your journey? I dropped out of grad school and moved to Atlanta in 1998 to be a singer/songwriter. At the time, I taught piano on the side to help pay the bills. After I turned 30, I evaluated where I was at in life and decided to take a break from gigging. I focused on teaching and that's when things really started to happen. There were many days where I felt like I was running to catch up. I didn't know the first thing about running a business. But I guess I was up for the challenge!
What's your favorite part of your day? Dawn and dusk - the winding up and winding down...although the winding down can be a challenge!
When do you feel most successful? We celebrate small, everyday successes at Metro Music Makers; and a highlight for me is seeing the progress that our students make.
What do you do to recharge when you’re feeling drained? I've just taken up surfing and love it! But since we're land locked in Atlanta, taking my dog for a 10 minute walk around the block helps.
What do you know today that you wish you would have known when you first got started as an entrepreneur? I recently saw renowned photographer Jeremy Cowart speak, and his reminder to everyone is that "Impossible" really spells "I'm Possible". It's so true! I wish I had adopted "I'm Possible" as my mantra early in life.
How do you optimize your day? By surrounding myself with great people.
Who is the person/people who allowed you to imagine more? My team. They inspire and motivate me every day.
What does imagining more mean to you and your story? That I'm willing to explore new ideas and opportunities. That I'm willing to try even if I experience "failure" along the way. That I'm willing to wear new and different hats. I'm okay with change (even when I might be the one dragging my heels).
If you could do more of one thing every day what would it be? Surf - not so easy to do in Atlanta!
