Apps for the Entrepeneur

We totally understand how busy the life of an entrepreneur can be. The good news is that we live in a time where our technology can be our best friend when it comes to staying organized, productive, and balanced. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite apps that keep us in check and help us on a daily basis.

Day One

Day One is the Dear Diary of the 21st century. I used to love to write in my journal, but these days my smartphone feels like my home base and putting a pen to paper just does not come as naturally anymore. Day One is a journaling app that beautifully combines tradition with technology. The app tracks your location, weather, time of entry, and allows you to add photos. You can also have multiple journals going at once in order to stay organized as you track your thoughts and emotions. It’s as easy as sending a text, with the same benefits as taking the time to journal.

5 Minute Journal

If Day One even feels like too much of a time crunch in your day, then The 5 Minute Journal is the next best thing. It really only takes a few minutes to fill out the journal prompts, one in the morning and one in the evening. You can add a photo to each entry and the timeline interface gives the user a simple, beautiful snapshot of your life. I promise you’ll be feeling more grateful by the day as you use this tool!

Cladwell

Stumped at what to wear each morning? Yes, me too! In my half-asleep state each weekday, the last thing I want to do is stare at my closet and put together an outfit. Cladwell takes away the stress of choosing your outfit. After downloading the app, you do have to invest some time to log the items from your wardrobe, but after that, the app will create outfits choices for you that even sync with the weather forecast for the day. It’s so helpful and frees up your mornings for more important things, like making coffee!

Sleep Cycle

If you ever have trouble sleeping and wonder where things went wrong, this app’s for you. Sleep Cycle sits by your bedside and tracks sound to show you when you were in a deep sleep vs. when you were more restless. You can also use the app to set yourself up for success in the morning by selecting a wake-up time window. The app will begin to play the alarm at a time during that window when it makes the most sense per what stage of your sleep cycle you’re in. You can store your sleep data and look back on trends (like average time in bed or how many steps you took the day before) in order to get the best sleep possible in the future. For iPhone users, it also syncs with your Health app.

Awesome Cal

If you’re a long-term iPhone user, you may remember the original interface of the default calendar app that came with your phone. It was much easier to navigate from a month view than the current format. Awesome Cal is my calendar app of choice for this very reason because the month view is so user-friendly. The best part about Awesome Cal is the range of customizations you can make to how your calendar looks. You begin by uploading and syncing multiple calendars and then organize them within the app using stickers, colors, syncing with Google Maps, and so much more. Give it a try - you won’t regret making the switch!

Simple Habit

In a perfect world, we would begin our mornings with a slow yoga practice and mindful meditation. If you love the idea of meditating but aren’t quite sure how to put it into practice among the chaos of your already packed schedule, then this app will put you at ease, literally. Simple Habit is branded as meditation for busy people. The app has a collection of guided meditations ranging from 5 minutes to 20 minutes. You can customize your meditation based on what you’re doing, whether it’s ending a tough day, preparing for a big event, or commuting to work. For me, it’s a perfect way to find the time to breathe, without actually taking too much time out of the day.

Evernote

Think of this app as an upgrade from your typical notes app. Evernote has the interface of a word document and will sync to all your devices. You can store images, attachments, and save the notes to your phone. Another great feature is that you can organize your notes into different notebooks for easy navigation. Raise your standards of note taking and you’ll never look back on the default notes app you previously used on your phone!

With smartphones, we have a mighty device in our hands that generations before us did not get the luxury of. If you’re not using your app store to its full potential, there’s no better time than now to begin! No matter what area of your life you need assistance with, there’s probably an app for that.
